Susan Cobey On Honey Bee Breeding
My goal is to provide the tools, training and services required to select and maintain honey bee stocks with the desired, heritable traits to enhance their vigor and productivity.
This also requires advanced beekeeping skills, the rearing and care of queens and drones. Best management practices are also critical in face of the current challenges; controlling pest & pathogens, pesticide residues and providing nutritious forage.
A focus on individual needs is provided. To give you the skills to gain proficiency and success, classes are kept small, with attention to details. Advanced classes, for those with some experience, focus on trouble shooting and improving success and efficiency. The specialized care of queens (pre and post insemination), and the rearing and maturing of drones is also presented, as needed. Classes are in Washington State, and can be arranged at your location or abroad by request. Inquire for details and dates.
Custom insemination Services are provided to researchers requiring specific crosses and to commercial queen producers to support their breeding programs. Please inquire for details. We also provide New World Carniolan breeder queens and fresh semen. Custom services are also available at your location. Inquire for details.
Instrumental insemination is simply a tool to control mating. The technique requires specialized equipment. Quality can make the difference in the ease or difficulty of learning and using the technique. Offered here is the highest quality available and what I personally use. As there is no standardization in equipment and choice can be confusing - Please inquire for advice. Parts and upgrades to your current instrument are available.
